Kevin Sasser, Fire Chief
Chief Kevin Sasser has been serving the Destin Fire Control District as the Fire Chief since February of 2009. Chief Sasser brings over 43 years of experience to the position. He previously held the position of Assistant Fire Chief for 10 years. Prior to accepting the Assistant Fire Chief’s position, he was employed with the Ocean City-Wright Fire Control District for 14 years, where he also worked his way through the ranks to the position of Assistant Chief. Chief Sasser proudly served in the armed forces as a firefighter in the United States Air Force and served a tour in Europe. In 1991, he was instrumental in establishing the areas high angle/confined space rescue team and was the team Chief for 15 years.
Chief Sasser is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs (SEAFC), Florida Fire Chiefs Association (FFCA), and the Okaloosa County Fire Rescue Organization. He currently serves as the FFCA’s Region 1 Coordinator for the State Emergency Response Plan and is the FFCA’S Region 1 representative on the State Emergency Response Committee. He served on the Fire Science Advisory Board for Pensacola Junior College and has instructed the minimum standards course in the local area. He is currently an adjunct instructor for Northwest Florida State College. Through the years, Chief Sasser has been actively involved with the youth in the community. He has volunteered time as a coach, an umpire and a mentor. Involvement with the community’s youth is something he holds close to his heart. If you know Chief Kevin Sasser, you realize his family is very important to him. He enjoys spending quality time with his wonderful wife Terri, to whom he has been married for 25 years. They are very proud of their three children, Josh, Brad and Jenna.
